A new way for nature and community to thrive together.

The Glen Junor vision is to create a residential village immersed in regenerated natural habitat. Using skilful urban design, we’ll build a shared pathway network that will link its way around community gardens, play spaces, wildlife corridors, formalised parks and the homes of nearby residents. Co-work spaces, social spaces for youth and a new school will all be connected via off-road pathways. Glen Junor will be a haven for pedestrians.

Glen Junor will rapidly transform degraded farm land that has been heavily grazed by livestock into a thriving natural habitat site where people can live in an environment immersed in nature.

We are transforming the previously cleared farm paddocks that were covered in weeds and pasture grass and creating wetland, habitat and wildlife corridors that will act as critical biolinks for wildlife to connect with surrounding valleys and waterways.

A range of new habitats will be designed and shaped, with the planting of tens of thousands of native trees and plants. There will be a rapid increase in wildlife numbers and the ‘re-wilding’ of threatened animal species that we actively reintroduce.

We envisage the day when residents can take an evening walk at Glen Junor and watch the returned birdlife nesting in the trees we planted, see the echidnas gambolling across front yards and kangaroos lazing about in the community parks. We want to give our nature-loving residents and their children the opportunity to reconnect, live, learn and delight in the natural world around them.

Creating a thriving, regenerative community, through ‘Nature-Based Solutions’

‘Nature-Based Solutions’ harness the power of nature to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and also help us adapt to the impacts of climate change.

They are win-win solutions that involve protecting, restoring and sustainably managing ecosystems to address society’s challenges and promote human well-being.

Embedding biodiversity, climate resilience and community will ensure residents discover a unique sense of belonging.

Odonata is a not-for-profit entity supporting biodiversity impact solutions. We’ve partnered with them to advise on biodiversity, climate and community solutions, and critically, to use their expertise in these areas to see successful implementation within the future community of Glen Junor.

Embedding Nature within the Urban Landscape Through Biodiversity Sensitive Urban Design

Biodiversity sensitive urban design (BSUD) is an alternative way of planning and designing new development, looking to incorporate biodiversity into the core fabric of the urban sphere. Historically area’s of biodiversity value within a site are seen to hinder development, however with BSUD, biodiversity is viewed as an asset and is enhanced and celebrated on site.

Glen Junor engaged with RMIT to provide a detailed Biodiversity Urban Design Strategy for our project. You can read the full report below.

By the successful implementation of Biodiversity Urban Design Strategy, Glen Junor will be a haven for species like the Black-Chinned Honeyeater.
